Description

The former tollhouse at Tarvin Road Lock is a mid-19th century structure that is now unused. It is built of washed brick in header bond with stone dressings and features a felted domed roof. The building has a circular plan with a brick plinth and a pulvinated stone parapet. There are three blocked windows, each with stone lintels and chamfered sills. A board door is located at the southeast side, also with a stone lintel. This tollhouse is an unusual survival of its type and is interestingly not original to the construction of the canal.
