Description

Tarvin Road Lock Cottage is a late 18th-century lock-keeper's cottage, later altered in the mid-19th century, originally constructed for the Chester Canal Company. It is now a house. The exterior is constructed of washed English garden wall bond brick, with a Welsh slate roof and two integral gabled chimneys. The south front has three bays, with the central bay projecting slightly. This central bay features a tripartite sash window with glazing bars, set beneath a flat hood supported by brackets. Above is a semi-circular tripartite window with glazing bars. The left bay has a door with a simple porch, and a 16-pane sash window above. A 20th-century casement window is in the right bay. A semi-circular headed door gives access to the cellar from the north side. Inside, there are three rooms on each floor, including a cellar. Large cupboards with vertical boards and iron strap hinges are located on either side of the main fireplace.
