Description
Abbey Gate College Chapel, formerly known as Saighton Grange Chapel, is a chapel built around 1870 for the 2nd or 3rd Marquis of Westminster. It is constructed from red sandstone and features a tiled roof. The building has a gabled, rectangular shape with a simple design. An open gable belfry houses one bell beneath a short, square spire. A tall stone chimney with a round flue is located on the ridge. The recessed porch is situated in the south-west corner and opens under a corbelled stone lintel at the end, with two post-and-lintel openings on the side. On the south side, which is oriented for ritual use, there are four stained glass windows—three dating from the late 19th century and one from the late 20th century. A cross is depicted in patterned brickwork on the south gable. The entrance features a hardwood door with six double panels. The chapel was designed to complement the character of the Grange.
