Description

Elm House is a house dating from around 1800 or earlier. It is constructed of brown brick in an 18th century or earlier style, laid in irregular English garden wall bond on the sides and back, while the front is pebbledashed. The roof is made of grey slate and features flush gable chimneys. The building has two storeys and two windows, with a lower two-storey, two-window wing on the right, which may have originally served as a farm building. The main portion has flush-set sash windows that are four panes wide, with sandstone sills, while the right wing has 20th-century small-pane casements with steep sills made of moulded brick in two courses. The front door is a 20th-century boarded type. There is a fragment of red sandstone walling on the right gable, which also has bricked-up openings. Inside, there are six-panel doors with fielded panels on the backs, and a five-panel door leading to a partly rock-cut cellar.
