Description

Eaton Boat, built around 1880 by John Douglas for the 1st Duke of Westminster, is a house featuring squared rubble sandstone walls and half-timbered gables, topped with patterned red and blue tiled roofs. It has four shaped red brick chimneys and one plain chimney. The ground floor showcases stone mullioned windows, some of which are under labels, while the first floor has timber windows with cast iron opening lights. The leaded glazing has been removed. There is a boarded door located in a recessed porch, and the doorway at the north-east corner of the house is blocked. Inside, there are some four-panel doors with moulded stiles and rails, and an 'L' shaped open staircase in the large hall, which features shaped square newels and flat balusters that exhibit a restrained art nouveau style. To the west, there is a common brick single-storey outbuilding with a tiled roof, which has stone surrounds and mullions on its windows.
