Description

Wood Cottage is a farmhouse dating to the mid- to late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble, originally with a thatched roof, now slate. The original plan comprised two cells, with a later 19th-century addition. The front of the house features a 20th-century porch on the right-hand side, with a glazed door. To the left of the porch, at ground floor level, are a three-light and a two-light casement window. A two-light gabled dormer window is situated on the first floor to the right of the 19th-century addition. The left-hand gable end has moulded ashlar kneelers and coping, and a two-light 19th-century casement window placed within a larger window opening, partially blocked with brickwork. The rear of the cottage has a rendered plinth and a 20th-century doorway with an ashlar lintel. To the left of this doorway is a single-light window, and at the far left is a single-light inglenook window with a chamfered ashlar surround, now blocked. To the right of the inglenook window is the end of the bressumer beam.
