Description

The range of barns, dating to around 1802, stands 15 metres east of the Ryleys Farmhouse. Later 19th and 20th century alterations have been made. The barns are constructed of purple-red brick in an English garden wall bond, with a Welsh slate roof. They form three sides of a courtyard. The south range is a barn with three rectangular pitch holes (two now glazed) and two lines of diamond-pattern ventilation holes facing the road. The west front features a large cart entrance with a small projecting porch, an inserted garage opening, two doors with segmental brick heads, and two lines of diamond-pattern ventilation holes. A large, lancet-shaped pitch hole, now partly blocked, is located at the left end. The north range comprises a small Cheshire hay barn built upon rectangular piers. The west range bears a date on its courtyard side, featuring the initials "TH" in decorative copperplate lettering.
