Description
The barn at Wirswall Hall dates from the 16th or 17th century and features a timber frame covered with clapboard, which likely replaced the original wattle and daub infill. It has a corrugated iron roof over thatch. This single-storey barn has a later added first floor. On the south side, there are 19 by 3 cells of small framing with angle braces, covered by clapboarding, some of which is butt-ended while the rest is overlaid and much has now fallen off. The uprights and cross timbers are channelled, indicating a different original infill that has been replaced by the boarding. Both gable ends have later extensions. Inside, there are two internal dividing walls with later inserted tension braces and beams for the first floor. The structure features queen post trusses with lateral uprights, two principals, and a ridge.
