Description

The Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1636, as indicated on an internal bressumer. It features a timber frame with brick infill and rendered brick, topped with a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and an entrance front with four bays. On the right side, there is a projecting rendered gabled bay that includes a canted 19th-century bay window on the ground floor and a 20th-century three-light casement window on the first floor, with a recessed cambered-headed panel above the gable. To the left, there are three recessed bays, with the central bay featuring an early 19th-century doorway that has a panelled surround and a five-panel door. On either side of this doorway, there are canted bay windows at ground floor level, and on the first floor, there is a three-light casement window on the left and two two-light casement windows on the right, all dating from the 19th or 20th century. A chimney stack is located on the left gable end, while the right side has a large chimney stack with offsets that support two diamond-shaped flues. The rear of the farmhouse shows timber framing on the left gable, with some wattle and daub infill and small framing cells at the first floor level. The ground floor is partially obscured by 19th-century outshuts, and there is an additional two-storey 19th-century addition on the right. Inside, there is an ashlar fireplace in the ground floor room, featuring a moulded cornice, jambs, and an ornamental frieze inscribed with "GT MT R 1636." The interior also includes chamfered beams, exposed joists, and five-panel doors.
