Description
WIRSWALL C.P. SJ 54 SW 5/80 The Grange Farmhouse 12.1.67 - II Farmhouse. Dated on internal bressumer 1636. Timber framed with brick infill and rendered brick with a plain tile roof. Two storeys. Entrance front: four bays, to the right is a projecting, rendered gabled bay with canted C19 bay window to the ground floor, and a C20 3-light casement window to the first floor with a recessed cambered-headed panel to the gable above. To the left of this are three recessed bays, the central of which has an early C19 doorway with a panelled surround and a 5-panel door. To right and left of this at ground floor level are canted bay windows and to the first floor are, at left a 3-light and at right two 2-light casement windows, all of C19 or C20 date. Chimney stack to left hand gable end. The right hand side has a massive chimney stack with offsets supporting two diamond shaped flues. The rear has timber framing to the left hand gable with some wattle and daub infill and cells of small framing to the walling at first floor level. The ground floor is obscured by C19 outshuts. To the right is a further 2-storey C19 addition. Interior: Ashlar fireplace to ground floor room with moulded cornice and jambs and ornamental frieze inscribed GT MT R 1636. Chamfered beams and exposed joists. Five-panel doors.
