Description
Sandfield House is an early 19th-century house, possibly incorporating an earlier building. It is constructed of brick with an asymmetrical slate roof. The house has two storeys and a three-window front, reflecting two distinct phases of construction. The central entrance features a moulded architrave surrounding a six-panelled door with a radial fanlight above. Wide twelve-pane sash windows are located to the left of the door on both floors, with a matching window above, each set within flat-arched heads of gauged brick. A moulded wooden eaves cornice runs along the top of the facade. The central section of the house likely represents a remodelling of an earlier structure, and is roofed separately with a hipped slate roof. A straight joint to the right of the doorway indicates a possible earlier structure that was refronted in the 19th century. This section has smaller twelve-pane sashes, which appear to have been inserted and are aligned differently from the other windows. A flat roof is concealed behind the continuous eaves cornice. The right-hand section extends as a rear wing, featuring two three-light casements to the ground floor in the return elevation. There is also a possible blocked doorway, partly concealed by ivy. The interior has not been inspected.
