Description
The Clock Tower in Queen's Park was built in 1888 and is made of red sandstone, brick, and timber. It features a square stone base with projecting angles, a moulded plinth, and recessed rectangular panels on all four sides. The south-facing panel includes an inscription and the date. Above this, there are equilateral triangular panels with ball flower finials, which display the heads of Queen Victoria on the north side and members of the Board of the London and North Western Railway Company.
The tower rises from a sandstone section with chamfered quoins and carved inset arms above each head, transitioning to brickwork that has vertical sinkings on the faces and quoins, with stone bands at three-course intervals. A projecting stone reeded cap supports the four-faced clock, which has timber-framed dials and equilateral pediments above each clock face. The tower is topped with an elaborate wrought iron support for a weather vane. This clock tower was donated by the employees of the railway company.
