Description
The Stables, originally built as stables for Davenport Hayes, is now a house. It features a datestone with a cherub relief at the top and the inscription C B H, dated 1733. The building was converted to its current use in 1975. It is constructed of whitewashed English garden wall bond brick with a stone slate roof and has two storeys.
The front of the building has five bays arranged in an A.A.B.A.A. rhythm. The central bay projects and features a two-storey semi-circular relieving arch that extends into a pediment. The ground floor originally had a cambered headed arch surrounding double doors, which have been replaced with glazing, and there is a hanging porch over the front door. Above, a pitch hole has been converted into a porthole window set below the semi-circular arch. There is a cambered headed datestone above the arch at the apex. Stable doors on either side have been replaced with 20th-century windows, and there is a sliding glass door to the right of centre. The first floor has square 20th-century windows in the former pitch holes. A corbel table runs below the eaves, and there is a 20th-century chimney stack on the right gable end, along with 20th-century additions to the rear.
