Description

This is an early 18th-century house, or originally a pair of houses, located on Church Hill in Knutsford, and now partly used as offices. The building is constructed of painted brick with a slate roof. It is three storeys high with a three-window front. The main entrance, positioned centrally, is framed by a stone doorcase featuring a Gibbs surround, stepped voussoirs and a keystone, supporting a heavy entablature. The door is composed of six panels. The windows are 12-pane sash windows with moulded stone sills, aprons and flat-arched painted stone surrounds incorporating voussoirs and scrolled keystones. A four-panelled door, in a moulded architrave, provides access to number 2 on the left-hand side. Plain string courses separate the floors, and the eaves are moulded, with stepped coped sections which may have been rebuilt. The rear wall and a gable end feature stacks. Internally, the house is divided to the left of the entrance hall and retains an early staircase.
