Description
This barn, located 75 meters south-southwest of Heawood Hall Farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, with buff sandstone dressings. The roof is made of Kerridge stone-slate, featuring stone copings and a stone ridge. Originally, the barn had a symmetrical five-bay front over two stories, but it now includes some inserted 20th-century openings. The building has stone quoins, kneelers, copings, and finials. The end bays feature chamfered stone doorcases with heavy lintels. The central cart entrance has been reduced in size and is flanked by two elliptical pitchholes with stone surrounds, along with a line of vertical ventilation slots. Inside, the barn contains four large grain bins, but the roof structure, which includes four queen post trusses and overlapping through purlins and ridge, remains intact. The left end of the barn was formerly a shippon and has a chamfered ceiling beam with a flat stop.
