Description

Saddlebole Farmhouse is a farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century or earlier. The walls were rebuilt in the early 18th century, and later alterations and additions were made in the 20th century. The farmhouse is constructed of washed brick set on a rough sandstone plinth. It has a thatched roof and a brick chimney. Originally a long rectangular plan, it now includes two shorter ranges to the rear. The two-storey front has five bays. A lean-to porch with a roof of Kerridge stone-slate is located at the left end of the farmhouse. The second and fourth bays feature 20th-century casement windows, set below raised brick bands at the first floor level, and three-light casement windows in dormers with thatched raking roofs. The remaining windows are casements. The left-hand bay has a cambered brick head over a three-light casement, and the interior is characterized by heavy roof timbers. Irregular stone walling is visible at the rear of the farmhouse. The interior was not inspected, but it is reported to contain several pairs of full cruck frames.
