Description

A large villa, dating from around 1846 and possibly designed by and for J Rogers, now divided into two houses. Later 19th-century additions were made, alongside a mid-20th century rebuild of the western portion. The villa is constructed of rock-faced brown sandstone, with a Welsh slate roof and four stone chimneys. The south front is irregular, extending over ten bays and two to three stories. The building’s masses step forward and back, featuring castellations along the roofline, wooden mullioned and transomed windows, and hood moulds, some with segmental heads. On the left side is an octagonal turret of four stages, with a small, higher octagonal lookout turret corbelled from its side, featuring a carved Stanley eagle. A central porch constructed of ashlar has been added, containing a fanlight and a half-glazed door. The rear elevation has been roughcast.
