Description

The stone drinking fountain, dated 1888 and inscribed with 'W', is likely associated with Mr. Westhead. It is made of sandstone ashlar and features a cast-iron waterspout. The fountain stands approximately one metre high and includes a shell-arched niche, a projecting semi-circular bowl, and a quatrefoil waterspout. It is located in the boundary wall of 'The Hurst', a Victorian house that was owned by Mr. Westhead and demolished in the 1950s. The fountain was probably installed for the convenience of pedestrians to refresh themselves while ascending the steep hill.
