Description

This is a row of eight railway company houses, dating to circa 1850, designed by John Cunningham. Later alterations in the 20th century have resulted in sixteen private dwellings. The houses are constructed of brown brick with slate roofs. Each house is two storeys with three bays, and features a projecting single-storey porch with a semi-circular arch. The porches have steeply weathered stone slab roofs and contain a four-panel door alongside a plain semi-circular fanlight. The windows are sash windows with stone sills, skewback heads, and glazing bars. The window openings above each porch have been filled to create blank panels. A moulded brick eaves cornice supports the gutters. Chimneys have four square flues, divided on each face and topped with projecting stone caps; blue tile ridges are also present. The buildings have been extended at the rear using sympathetic additions made from second-hand bricks. New internal porches provide access to two new front doors located side by side.
