Description
The Town Hall, built between 1864 and 1866 and designed by architect E.W. Goodwin, is a Grade II* listed building located on the north side of High Street. Constructed of stone in the Gothic style, it features two main storeys and dormers in a slated roof. The ground storey is arcaded, while the first storey windows are adorned with moulded arches and colonnettes. A central tower, complete with battlements and a pyramidal roof, is divided into two stages by a clock. The front of the building showcases three statues supported by carved elements and hoods. Inside, the walls are exposed stone, although the principal rooms have been altered. The Town Hall, along with Nos 7 to 11 (odd), forms a group of buildings of architectural significance.
