Description

Holehouse Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse constructed of red Flemish bond brick and topped with a plain tile roof. It stands three storeys tall. The entrance front features three bays arranged symmetrically, with lateral 3-light camber-headed casement windows on the ground and first floors, and similar windows with flat lintels on the second floor. There is a central doorway on the ground floor, which is sheltered by a 20th-century gabled porch. The first and second floors have blank rectangular panels, with the panel on the first floor having a cambered head. The floors are separated by projecting bands supported by alternately projecting headers, and there is a cogged band at the eaves. The roof is a 20th-century plain tile design, with gabled stacks on either side.

On the right side of the building, there is a central ribbon staircase window that extends from the ground to the second floor, along with a doorway and camber-headed 3-light windows on each floor. The left side features a 19th-century lean-to cheese room on the ground floor, which includes a cheese oven. The rear of the farmhouse has an outshut on the left side and a single bay on the right with 3-light casements on the ground, first, and second floors.

Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered ceiling beams on all floors. There is a close string staircase with four flights, featuring rectangular newels with domed tops and beaded corners. The handrail is moulded, and the splat balusters have straight sides with beaded corners. Each landing has four-plank doors with strap hinges.
