Description

This is a terrace of seven shops, originally with living accommodation above, built in three phases during the early 19th century. The buildings are stepped to adjust to the sloping ground. The exterior is constructed of Flemish bond brickwork with heavy slate roofs. The terrace has an eleven-window front, arranged over two storeys. The shop fronts at numbers 15, 19, and 21 have been renewed in a traditional style. The shop front at number 17 dates from the late 19th or early 20th century, featuring round-arched glazing with decorative spandrels and moulded consoles to the fascia. A round-arched passage entry is located to the right of number 15. The upper windows are 12-pane sashes with flat-arched heads. The windows at number 15 are set within round-arched recesses, with a continuous sill band. Shops fronts have been inserted at ground floor level at numbers 5-13, and a round-arched passage entry is situated between numbers 9 and 11. The upper windows at numbers 5-13 have been renewed within the original window openings and feature flat-arched painted stone heads. A moulded wooden eaves cornice runs throughout the terrace, with end wall stacks.
