Description

Bank House is a 17th-century building with later alterations, evidenced by a window pane dated 1744. The building is constructed of stone walls made of graded blocks, with a flagged roof and ball finials on the eaves. It is two storeys high and features a two-storey, gabled porch in the centre. This porch has a round-arched entrance with impost blocks, interior seating, and a panelled door. Above the entrance is a 12-paned sash window within a moulded stone frame featuring a dripstone. To the right of the porch is a five-light window on the ground floor with a stone label, and a blocked four-light window above. To the left of the porch are two windows on each floor; a larger four-light window and a modern two-light window on the ground floor, and two two-light windows above. All windows are fitted with stone mullions. The gable end to the right features two sash windows on each floor. A wing at the rear is constructed of old hand-made brick, with sash windows and a projecting brick chimney. In the small front garden, immediately in front of the house, stands an 18th-century fountain, known as the "Spewing Laddie." It is composed of a square stone column topped by a small, naked boy blowing a water jet upwards, a circular stone basin with urns, and two standing stone statues depicting Orpheus with a lyre and Eurydice in chains.
