Description

The property comprises a farmhouse, a barn (shippon), and an attached cottage, located on High Street in Turton. The farmhouse and barn were originally constructed as a single building, with the barn dated 1749. The attached cottage was added at the right-hand end.

The farmhouse and barn are built of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, and have roofs of stone slates, with slate roofing on the left end of the barn. Chimneys are located on both end walls of the farmhouse and on the right gable of the cottage.

The farmhouse (No. 114) has a doorway offset to the left of the centre, featuring large jambstones and lintel, and pairs of flush mullion windows on each floor. The windows on the left side of the farmhouse have three lights, while those on the right have four. The barn, continuing to the left, has a rounded wagon arch which is now blocked and contains a small window. Further along the barn are two windows, a door, and a window.

The cottage (Nos. 110 and 112) is slightly set back and has been restored to harmonise with the farmhouse. It features a central door with a plain surround and two three-light flush mullion windows on each floor. The window on the left of the door has altered masonry beneath and to the left. A single-storey lean-to is set back at the right end of the cottage and includes a matching three-light window.

The rear of the farmhouse has a three-light window on the first floor, although other openings have been altered. The barn has a canopy over the wagon entrance, and a two-bay outshut beyond this.
