Description

The Ashworth Monument, located approximately 50 metres south of the Church of St. Anne, is an early 19th-century raised tomb chest monument made of sandstone ashlar. It is designed in a classical style, featuring a square base and pedestal, along with a square tomb chest that has projecting faces. The monument is topped with a prominent cornice leading to a low pyramidal roof, which supports a square urn consisting of two tiers, each adorned with simple pediments on the sides. The faces of the monument are inscribed in memory of various family members, with the earliest inscription on the west side commemorating GILES ASHWORTH the elder of Edgworth, Gentleman, who died in 1828.
