Description
The war memorial located opposite Railway Terrace in South Hylton, Sunderland, was constructed around 1919. It is made of granite and features wrought-iron railings. The railings have double top rails, with some uprights designed in a waved and scrolled manner, forming the front boundary of the memorial. There are two steps leading up to the memorial, with the upper step inscribed with "GREAT WAR." The tapered shaft of the monument includes a scroll and wreath on the plinth, names inscribed on the tall shaft, an interrupted cornice, and a raised segmental center above the top panel that features a low relief sword.
