Description

The bandstand in West Park was built around 1894 and designed by James Allanson & Sons of Glasgow. It features an octagonal shape supported by slender cast iron columns, which hold up an octagonal ogee-shaped dome. The dome has an interesting internal structure and is currently covered with modern felt. A tall, spiky weather vane adorns the top, and there are decorative cast iron brackets and a balustrade between the columns at floor level. This bandstand is a fine example of its type and is becoming increasingly rare. West Park, where it is located, was opened in 1894 and is part of the former Brinkburn Dane.
