Description
The Trustee Savings Bank, located on the south side of Barrington Street, was originally built in 1841, designed by architects J & B Green. An addition was made between 1958 and 1961, attributed to J H Morton & Sons architects. The original structure features three eastern bays on Barrington Street and a five-bay elevation facing Cornwallis Street. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a flat roof and stands two storeys tall, showcasing rusticated quoins. The ground floor has windows with semi-circular heads, sashes, architraves, and keystones above the arched heads, along with a continuous impost band. The first-floor windows also have sashes and architraves, with alternating triangular and segmental pediments and a continuous sill. The building is topped with an eaves cornice and a parapet that includes balusters and some solid sections. The four western bays on Barrington Street and the remainder of the building were added in the 1958-61 renovations. The listing highlights the original work by the Greens.
