Description
The Church of St Peter, located on Sunderland Road in Harton, was built between 1866 and 1867 and designed by architect C. Hodgson Fowler. This pleasant and modest church is in the Early English style, constructed with coursed rubble and ashlar around the windows and doors, and features slate roofs. The church comprises a chancel, nave, and a south-west tower. A vestry was added on the north side of the chancel in the 20th century. The first stage of the tower serves as the south porch for the church. The tower has two stages and transitions into an octagonal ball-turret, which has two light openings under a pointed arch on each face, topped by an octagonal spire. The east window consists of three lancets filled with stained glass, installed in 1873. The interior is very simple in detail and decoration.
