Description
St Hilda's Colliery Head Stocks is a mid-19th century structure that was restored around 1985. It is built from red brick with ashlar dressings and stands three stories tall. The main south front features a round-headed entrance arch with iron gates on the left. To the right, there are three tall round-headed windows with ornate iron glazing, all of which are blind, and are accented by ashlar impost blocks and keystones. Above these windows is a moulded ashlar band, followed by a moulded ashlar cill band, which holds a pair of glazing bar sashes on the right and a single similar sash on the left. Above this, there is another sash window to the left and a large round-headed window with ornate iron glazing to the right, both of which are also blind and feature ashlar impost blocks and a keystone. The top of the building is finished with an open ashlar pediment and a raised brick parapet with ashlar coping. At the rear, there is a single iron headstock over the mining shaft.
