Description

No. 49, The Lodge, was built between 1867 and 1869 as a lodge to No. 47, Whitburn House, for Thomas Barnes. It is a timber-frame building with rendered infill and a Welsh slate roof, constructed in a style similar to No. 47. The Lodge is a single-storey building with two bays, featuring two-light mullioned windows. An entrance porch is situated on the east gable, facing the driveway. The overhanging eaves have curved wooden brackets and decorative ridge tiles. To the south of The Lodge is a low semicircular wall constructed of moulded grey brick, with bright red brick and decorative stone piers, supporting wire railings set within rendered panels.
