Description
Undercliff is a house, dating to circa 1853, now divided into three separate dwellings. The brick construction features sandstone dressings and a Welsh slate roof. The west front has three bays, defined by four large Tuscan pilasters with stone plinths and capitals. A substantial Tuscan entrance porch, with two round and two square pillars, leads to a six-panelled door in the left bay. The central bay contains a three-light window with elliptical headed mullions and transom, set beneath a lintel supported by brackets; the right bay is windowless. Three sash windows are present at the first floor. The hipped roof has wide eaves supported by wooden brackets, and square brick chimneys with stone bands and cornices.
An east wing, plain in design and four bays wide, adjoins the main house. A two-storey, two-bay return creates a courtyard, containing a passage, a two-storey house, a cottage, a carriage entrance, and a coach house. A curved brick wall extends from the north-west corner of the house to the courtyard entrance, and on the courtyard side, a brick mounting block with three stone steps is present.
