Description
The fire station, built around 1908 by E.F.W. Liddle and P.L. Brown for the Borough of Wallsend, is designed in a restrained Baroque style. Constructed from sandstone ashlar and brick with ashlar dressings, it stands two storeys tall and features five windows along with a left vehicle entrance archway. The ground floor is rusticated and includes recessed arches for two engine entrances with glazed doors. To the right, there is a six-panelled door with an overlight, and a sash window is located in the fifth bay. The first floor has six sash windows set in architraves with moulded sills and upper glazing bars. Additional architectural details include a first floor string, a modillioned eaves cornice, and a balustraded parapet, except for the central bays which are inscribed with the words "FIRE STATION."
