Description
No. 12 Park Terrace is a headmaster's house, now a private residence, built in 1876 by J. Johnstone of Newcastle for the Wallsend Schools Board. The building is constructed of snecked sandstone with an ashlar plinth, quoins, and dressings. It features a Welsh slate roof adorned with decorative ridge tiles and flat stone gable coping. The structure is designed in the Scottish baronial style and is L-shaped, comprising two storeys and three by two bays.
The central entrance, dating from around 1980, is located under an overlight with a blind bay above it. To the left, there are paired windows below a similar pair situated in a hipped half dormer. An eaves corbel table runs above the first and second bays. The high crow-stepped gable over the projecting third bay contains a one-storey canted bay with paired windows and a relieving arch. All windows are sashes with glazing bars and sloping sills, featuring bar-stopped chamfers on all openings.
On the right return facing Station Road, there is one blind bay beneath a corbel table and paired sashes under a projecting gable. The building is topped with two tall corniced and moulded ashlar chimneys.
