Description

The milepost at Wideopen, likely from the mid-19th century, was erected by the Cow-Causey & Buckton Burn Turnpike Trust. It is located on the east side of what is now a B road. This cast-iron milepost has a triangular shape with an open back and stands approximately 0.7 meters tall. It is painted white with black figures. The raised lettering indicates distances to Newcastle (6 miles) and Morpeth, while the detachable plate that used to show the mileage of 8 ¾ is missing.
