Description
Racquet Court is a real tennis court and house, now serving as a badminton and real tennis club, designed by F.W. Rich for Sir Andrew Noble. The building is constructed of Flemish garden wall bond brick, featuring ashlar and terracotta dressings, and has a roof of plain tiles with terracotta gable copings and lead turret roofs. It consists of one high storey with eight bays and a two-storey ninth bay. There is a pent entrance extension on the right return and a low four-bay pent front extension.
The south elevation showcases large round windows with a pivoted central section and metal glazing bars, set in keyed ashlar and terracotta surrounds, with bays defined by buttresses. The ninth bay features an upper four-light stone-mullioned window. In front of the four right bays, a pentice includes sash windows, with tripartite arrangements in the gabled alternate bays. Tall octagonal corner turrets are adorned with terracotta strings, cornices, and high domes topped with ball finials. The right return entrance porch displays arts-and-crafts Gothic style ornamentation above an elliptical open arch, with a parapet featuring high spike finials. A wood gallery is located at the rear.
