Description
Nos. 93-101 on Pilgrim Street is a row of three townhouses, now functioning as shops. These buildings date from the late 18th century and feature late 19th-century shopfronts. They are constructed of red brick and render, topped with slate roofs. The eaves cornice is made of wood and has dentil detailing, with rounded lead rainwater heads at each end.
The street-facing side is four stories high and has seven windows, with a curved end on the right. The ground floor has two late 19th-century wooden shopfronts on the left, which have moulded frames, plate glass windows, and fascia boards supported by scroll brackets. To the right, there is a passage entrance and another shopfront that has been altered in the late 20th century. The first floor features a continuous cill band, with seven sash windows above: four on the left with plain sashes, and three on the right, which have plain sashes below and glazing bars above. The second floor has four plain sashes on the left and three glazing bar sashes on the right. The third floor contains seven similar, though slightly smaller, sashes.
Inside, Nos. 93-97 have a stick baluster staircase with a mahogany handrail leading to the upper floors. The doorways feature moulded surrounds and six-panel doors, while the sash windows also have moulded surrounds and panelled shutters. Most rooms retain moulded plaster cornices and some original fireplaces. Nos. 99 and 101 have a full-height stick baluster staircase with a mahogany handrail, curved landings, and a circular roof-light. The first floor includes a room with a Greek key and metope cornice. Most doors here have moulded surrounds and six-panel doors, with most windows featuring panelled shutters and moulded surrounds. Some original fireplaces with cast-iron basket grates are also present.
