Description
No. 18 Blackett Street is a shop and offices built in 1895 by Cackett for T. and G. Allan. The building is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features four storeys and an attic with one bay. The ground floor shop was altered around 1980. The first floor is adorned with ornamented pilasters that support a pulvinated frieze and cornice, featuring a central semi-circle carved with the initials "TAG." The first floor also has a seven-light window, with the central five forming a canted bay, all within a frame decorated with garlands. The second floor includes round-headed windows set in keyed architraves with bracketed sills, while the third floor windows have aprons, with the central window displaying the date in a cartouche and a scrolled pediment above. The central attic window is flanked by flat pilasters and consoles beneath a cornice, and there is a balustrade along the roof. An end chimney is also present, featuring an ashlar cornice.
