Description

Four lamp standards are located on the edge of the pavement opposite number 1 Hood Street in Newcastle upon Tyne. These lamp standards were designed between 1902 and 1904 by W.H. Knowles and W. and T.R. Milburn. They are made of cast iron and feature triangular bases composed of three interlinked consoles. The shafts are hexagonal, fluted, and tapering, topped with moulded capitals and cross bearings. The original gas lamps have been converted to electricity and include reflector hoods.
