Description

The Hodgson tomb, located about 15 metres east of the Church of St. John the Baptist, is a chest tomb dating from around 1800. It commemorates Solomon Hodgson, who was the owner and editor of the Newcastle Chronicle, along with members of his family. The tomb is made of sandstone ashlar and features a moulded top with inscribed panels. The inscription is recorded in E. Mackenzie's "History of Newcastle" from 1827.
