Description

The Duke of Northumberland's House is a house dated 1822, built for the Duke of Northumberland during the bailiffship of Hugh Taylor. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with pecked quoins. The first bay is set back and raised to two storeys in brick on a stone ground floor. The main house features a pantiled roof with flat stone gable copings, while the wing has a Welsh slate roof and quoined rubble chimneys. The building is two storeys high, with three bays and a set-back left wing that has one bay. The entrance features a moulded surround to a 3 over 3 panelled door, which is located under an inscription and has a raised crescent, the emblem of the Northumberland family, above it. The sash windows have pecked stone lintels and flat stone sills, and there are two foot scrapers, one made of cast iron and the other of wrought iron, flanking the door.
