Description
The War Memorial, built around 1919, features a rock-faced painted stone plinth set on sandstone steps. It includes bronze plaques and a painted stone statue. The memorial has two square steps leading up to a tapered plinth, which supports a statue of a soldier holding a trailing rifle, with a mortar and a reel of cable positioned behind his left leg. Wreaths are depicted on two plaques that list the names of those from Newburn and the surrounding district who died in World War 1, located on the south and west sides; plaques on the north and east sides have been removed. A plaque on the steps reads "THEIR NAMES SHALL LIVE FOREVER."
