Description
The lych gate south of the Church of St. Michael and All Angels was built in 1885. It features sandstone ashlar walls and pegged timber framing, topped with a stone-flagged roof that has ridge tiles and wrought iron cross finials, all designed in a Free Gothic style. The low side walls are supported by square piers that hold traceried open arcades, with a five-light arcade on the south side. An elliptical arch on the north side leads to steps that ascend to the churchyard. At the east end, there are panelled gates with long strap hinges and ball finials above the stiles. The gable ends are adorned with arched tie beams that have inscriptions and richly-carved brackets, and there is a figure of Christ on the east gable.
