Description

Nos. 1-15 are two terraces of houses, with a single detached house at the end (no. 15), and two flats (Nos. 5 and 6) along with a house (no. 7) that face a small enclosed playground. These buildings were constructed between 1976 and 1978 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor, with site architect Vernon Gracie and structural engineer White, Young and Partners, and main contractor Shepherd Construction. The houses are built from buff metric modular brick on a timber frame, with red brick used for Nos. 1-4 and orange bricks on one wall of Nos. 8-15, creating variegated corner patterns with the buff brick. The design features brown weatherboarding and blue metal monopitch roofs supported by plywood box beam purlins. Nos. 1-3 have brown vertical weatherboarding facing the courtyard and yellow door hoods, while No. 4 has a projecting brick porch. There are end bird boxes, and No. 5 includes a weatherboarded porch, an orange side wall, and a bird box. No. 6 has a rear projection. Nos. 8-15 feature high weatherboarded eaves above strip first-floor windows. All windows are timber in timber surrounds with aluminium opening lights, and the timber doors have glazed panels, some of which have been renewed in hardwood. The interiors have not been inspected. The blue fences are an integral part of the overall design, and the courtyard is lined with railway sleepers.
