Description

This is a terraced development of houses built between 1972 and 1975 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor, with Vernon Gracie as site architect, White, Young and Partners as structural engineers, and Stanley Miller Ltd as the main contractor. The houses are constructed of pale metric modular brick on a timber frame, with pale blue and white timber cladding to most upper storeys, and dark blue timber cladding continued as balconies over the carriageway between numbers 3 and 4. Further dark blue timber cladding is present on numbers 4-6, and dark blue and green vertical cladding on the lower storeys of numbers 7-9. Numbers 11-15 feature blue green and brown cladding to their lower portions, continued as a balcony over the carriageway between numbers 12 and 13, with bright green cladding above the upper windows of numbers 13 and 14, and white cladding to number 15. The houses at numbers 1-3 and 10 are three storeys high, while the others are two, reflecting the steep slope of the land. The houses have deeper first-floor windows to provide light to the living rooms. Windows are timber-framed, with aluminium sliding opening lights. Timber doors have glazed panels, some of which have been renewed in hardwood. Projecting downpipes extend from the projecting eaves. Stained timber fences sit on granite kerbs, forming an integrated part of the overall design. The interiors have not been inspected. Historical and source information is available under the listing for numbers 1-75 Dunn Terrace.
