Description
This listing describes a group of terraced houses and pensioners' bungalows that enclose a square, built between 1974 and 1976 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor, with site architect Vernon Gracie and structural engineer White, Young and Partners. The buildings feature pale metric modular brick on a timber frame, brown weatherboarding, and turquoise blue metal roofs supported by plywood box beam purlins. Most of the structures are two storeys high, except for Nos. 10 and 11 Brock Square, which are single storey with a raised attic storey over the corner entries. Nos. 4 and 5 Brock Square have blue catslide roofs over projecting porches, while Nos. 12-20 Dibley Street have prominent projecting brick porches. The timber windows include aluminium opening lights, and the timber doors have glazed panels, with some renewed in hardwood. A notable feature is the red-brown fencing at the rear of Nos. 10-22, which enhances the square's character. The interiors have not been inspected. This group of buildings contributes to the distinctive character of the Gordon Road neighbourhood.
