Description

The Barbican Walls, dating from the mid-13th century, are a significant feature located between the north gate of the castle and the Black Gate in Newcastle upon Tyne. These walls are constructed of coursed squared sandstone and have a chamfered base. They line the south side of the road that connects the former north gate of the castle to the Black Gate. The walls were added in the 13th century and are recognized as a scheduled ancient monument.
