Description
Park House, located to the north east of Brandling House, is a steward's house that now serves as the racecourse manager's house. It was built around 1760, likely by the architect James Paine for Charles Brandling. The building features coursed squared sandstone with a plinth and quoins, while the rear extension is made of snecked sandstone. The main part of the house has a graduated Lakeland slate roof, with Welsh slate roofs on the wings and the rear extension.
The structure is two stories tall with three bays and one-story wings that have two bays each, topped with an open-pedimented center. The left side has a partly-glazed four-panel door, while the central door is blocked and has an inserted sash. There is a sash window on the right and three on the first floor, all featuring voussoirs, except for the central round-headed window. The pediment includes three stone pigeon ledges, and the wings have similar windows. All windows have been renewed with sashes that include glazing bars. The main roof is adorned with two ashlar-corniced yellow brick end chimneys and one at the rear, while the hipped roofs of the wings include an inserted dormer on the right.
Inside, the house showcases six-panel doors, some with moulded beading on fielded panels, and a deep panelled reveal in the principal ground-floor room, which features egg-and-dart moulded window surrounds and moulded shutters.
