Description
Salters' Bridge, located on Salters' Lane in Gosforth, is a medieval and later bridge constructed from coursed squared sandstone. It features two arches; the northern half of the eastern arch has broad ribs and is pointed with a recessed chamfered surround, while the southern half and the western arch are segmental. The bridge includes a north central pointed cutwater with a square refuge in the parapet above, and a low south cutwater with a pilaster above the parapet. The parapet copings are steeply chamfered. Salters' Bridge is recognized as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
