Description

This is an early 19th-century terrace of nine houses, originally numbered 1-9, later renumbered 1-15 Walker Terrace. The houses are built of local pinkish brick with stone dressings and have Welsh slate roofs, brick chimneys with stone cornices. The terrace is arranged over two storeys and each house has five bays, with the end houses featuring two bays and three-bay returns where the front doors are located. Brick pilaster divisions are emphasized with stone capitals. Architectural details include a stone plinth, frieze, eaves cornice, lintels, cills, and architraves framing the ground-floor windows and all windows on the returns. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. The front doors are four-panel doors, each topped with an oblong fanlight, and are framed by Doric doorcases on the ends of the terrace, with simpler architraves elsewhere. A stone forecourt wall with a moulded coping, square gate piers, and interrupted stone steps provide access to each house. Some interiors retain decorative plaster cornices, particularly in the halls and staircase areas.
