Description

This is a row of seventeen houses, numbered 1 to 17, Claremont Place, dating from the early to mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of sandstone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs. A decorative band runs along the ground and first floor cill levels, as well as the friezes and cornices. The houses have brick chimneys. They are two storeys high with a basement, and some have since had dormers added. Most of the windows are altered sash windows, but they remain within their original surrounds. Stone steps with cast iron railings lead to six-panel doors, although some are now flushed or partially glazed, all set within well-carved stone surrounds featuring pilasters and entablatures. Number 5 has a later stone bay window added. Some glazed porches have also been added to the frontages.
